Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has brought out some new changes for PGWP. The new PGWP changes are set to implement starting 1st November 2024, and will affect applicants afterwards.

Beginning 1st Nov, applicants will need to meet existing as well as some new requirements when they are applying for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). The new requirements are related to language requirements and study program requirements.

New PGWP Requirements

The new PGWP changes which will be announced by IRCC are:

  • University graduates (bachelors’, masters’, and doctoral degree holders) need to score at least CLB/NCLC 7
  • Those who graduated from any other university program require CLB/NCLC 7 but they must have chosen one of the eligible study fields
  • Those who graduated from a college, must have at least CLB/NCLC 5. They also must be studying in one of the selected study fields

Which Requirements Haven’t Changed?

Even after the implementation of new requirements, PGWP applicants still need to meet the following requirements:

  • The applicants still need to meet general and physical location, to qualify for a PGWP
  • To apply for a PGWP when you are applying before the changes are implemented, you don’t need to meet the upcoming requirements
  • Those applying for a PGWP after they graduated from a PGWP eligible flight school only need to meet the existing requirements
