On May 31st Sean Fraser, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship finally announced the very first launch of a category-based selection for the Express Entry system. This system will issue Invitation to Apply (ITA) to eligible applicants with specific skill-set and language abilities. More information will be available in the upcoming weeks. According to the information provided by the IRCC, the targeted Express Entry draws will focus on Express Entry profiles who are extremely proficient in French and have work experience in the following field:
- Healthcare
- STEM or Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics streams
- Trades like carpenters, plumbers, and contractors
- Transport
- Agriculture and agri-food fields.
How did Express Entry work till now?
An applicant applying for the Express Entry system had to go through the following steps till now:
- Answer a questionnaire to see if they are eligible for Express Entry
- Create an IRCC account through the GC-Key or Sign-In Partner
- Create an Express Entry profile
- A federal program will be assigned to you as per the information provided while creating your Express Entry profile
- You will also get a CRS score based on your information
- You will enter in the Express Entry pool
- Express Entry draws will be held by IRCC with a CRS cut-off
- Get an ITA or Invitation to Apply if your CRS score is higher than the cut-off
- Apply for Canada PR to IRCC within 60 days of getting your ITA
Bill C-19 and proposal to make changes in the Express Entry system
With Bill C-19 , the Canadian government had already hinted at making Express Entry a demand based system rather than a simple point-based system. This latest update on Express Entry Canada reflects the implementation of the Bill C-19.
