What is a Program-specific Express Entry draw?
Express Entry manages three immigration programs:
- The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): For skilled workers with at least one year of eligible work experience inside or outside Canada.
- The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): For foreign workers with a job offer in a skilled trade.
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC): For foreign skilled workers with one year of Canadian work experience in the last three years.
- Provincial Nominees: Applicants who are nominated by one of the Canadian provinces and also have an active Express Entry profile in the pool.
A program-specific draw issues ITAs or Invitation to Apply to candidates eligible for any one of the Express Entry programs.
For example, the latest Express Entry draw was a program-specific round of invitations that invited only those applicants who were eligible for the provincial nominee program. This means that even if your CRS score is higher than the announced cut-off of 793 points, you will not receive an invitation to apply if you are don’t have a provincial nomination.

What Can You Do While Waiting for Express Entry Draw?
The latest Express Entry draw was another program-specific draw. This means, that many applicants are still waiting for general or category-based selections. If you are in the pool and are waiting for the draw, there are certain things you can do that will improve your chances at getting a PR invitation:
- Get your documents ready. You will only have 60 days to apply for Canadian immigration if you get an invitation in the next Express Entry draw. There is very little scope for delays. Keeping all the possible paperwork ready will make it easier and faster to submit a complete application.
- Since there is a delay in the draws, ensure that your language test results will remain valid for a substantial period. IRCC does not accept test scores older than 2 years. Your score must be valid on the day you submit your application for Canada PR.
- Attempt to increase your score. Even though it might become frustrating to wait for the next Express Entry draw, you can use this opportunity to increase your CRS score.
- Maintain your Express Entry profile. Make sure that all the information in your profile stays true at the time of draws as well as when you apply for Canada PR. Any discrepancy in your CRS score and PR application will lead to immediate rejection.
