Diversity in Canada- Celebrating Inclusive and Heritage Events

June is full of events that celebrate inclusivity, heritage, and nationality. There’s Pride season, Filipino heritage month, Portuguese heritage month, and so on. Why should we be celebrating such events? Because though these communities are basically underrepresented groups, they still are valuable.

Celebrating such events make us all aware of the presence of these communities and their contributions to the growth of the society. Moreover, by recognizing their presence we are recognizing their culture, traditions and their heritage. It will also bring people closer together.

If you are thinking of going abroad for job opportunities, but don’t know which country is inclusive, well Canada is! Come to Canada and enjoy the safety and inclusiveness that this country has to offer. Diversity in Canada will change the way you see this world.

Events Celebrated in June

There are many events to celebrate in June, as we mentioned some of them above. There’s a strong need to celebrate these events as the world is still unknown to the magical facts of these communities.

When we come to know about them, about their struggles, about their achievements, we all come one step closer to make this world a better place.

Now, let’s start understanding which inclusive events are celebrated in June. These are:-

  • Pride Month
  • National Indigenous History Month
  • Filipino Heritage Month

Though none of these events are statutory holidays, still they have immense value in the hearts of Canadians and the government values them much too.

Pride Month

Pride started as a riot to bring equality and justice to those part of the 2SLBTQ+ community. June is known as the Pride month and is recognized globally as the event that brings people of different gender and sexualities together.

The aim of Pride is to create inclusivity as well as spread awareness about the 2SLBTQ+ community, their constant struggle for recognition around the world, and making this world a better place by bringing their contribution to light. Pride is all about bringing people together and making them feel safe, seen, and valued.

Across the country, there are numerous Pride events that take place. Out of them, Toronto hosts the biggest Pride Parade of North America. This year’s Pride Parade is held on 25th June.

National Indigenous History Month

As the name suggests, the National Indigenous History Month is all about celebrating the presence of the people who were first in Canada. The aim of this month is to celebrate the history, culture, traditions and values of the First Nations, Inuit, and Metis people.

These are primary indigenous communities in Canada and people need to understand their value. People of these communities have been on the Canadian lands since time immemorial. And it’s time we start recognizing them, accepting them more, and acknowledging their presence.

Their stories make Canada, Canada. What is Canada without its indigenous community?

Filipino Heritage Month

Filipino Heritage Month is the time to celebrate the achievements of the Filipino community, their language, their culture, and of course their traditions.

The Filipino community in Canada is one of the most rapidly growing communities. One can find most of the Filipinos in industries such as healthcare, arts, politics, and business. Basically in almost all work sectors, one can find Filipinos.
