What was the Visit About?

Canadian Minister S. Sajjan’s trip to India focused on the reinforcement of Sustainable Development Goals to achieve them before 2030.

The purpose of his visit to India was to call for action from other countires to improve conditions in the developing nations.

This is absolutely necessary in a world where all of us are facing the impacts of climate change. Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations (UN) would tremendously help accelerate progress towards a better world.

However, achieving sustainable goals comes at a price. A price that is too often not affordable for developing countries. So, to battle this adversity, the Minister of International Development, repeatedly called others to join hands and improve the financial conditions of developing nations.

Details from Trip to India

The trip to India lasted from 11th June to 13th June, 2023. Since the theme was “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” it is quite understandable that the focus was solely on achieving goals based on sustainable development.

In the meeting, Minister Sajjan didn’t miss the opportunity to condemn Russia’s cruel and inhumane aggression towards Ukraine. This aggression has been the cause behind a much higher risk of hunger and famine in Ukraine. And, so it is only justifiable for the minister of the ally country to condemn the actions of the bigger nation.

In Minister Sajjan’s own word, “… As Russia’s illegal and unjust war against Ukraine continues, we are seeing severe impacts to the global economy.”

Apart from this, the attention of the minister was to call on the G20 so that there could be better and more effective refoms to the international financial structures.

Further, the minister held bilateral discussions on varied priority matters that also included disaster response with several ministers of different G20 member countries such as Germany, Australia, Japan, and Europe.
