On 15th March, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced a new ECA organization for architects. Architects aspiring to immigrate to Canada can now get an Educational Credential Assessment by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) to prove their credentials.
The ECA evaluation by the CACB will also act as the first step in getting a license for the architects. ECA plays an important role in the Canadian immigration process since it demonstrates that an individual’s foreign credentials are equivalent to the Canadian standards.
Architects (NOC 21200) will be able to get their evaluation report by the CACB starting 20 May 2024.

Other Designated Organizations by IRCC
CACB is an addition to the already existing list of designated organizations by the IRCC. There are basically 5 organizations for usual ECA, and 2 for regulatory purposes. These are:
- World Education Services (WES)
- International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS)
- Comparative Education Service (CES)
- International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES)
- International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS)
- Medical Council of Canada – For Doctors
- Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada – For Pharmacists
If your occupation requires you to get licensed to practice your profession in Canada, get a license from a regulatory body for that. This is because an ECA report does not equal to a license so you can practice your profession.
However, this is not the same for architects since the CACB may grant them a license as well. Further information on how to apply for an ECA through it and others will be available soon.
