New Improvements under Canada-UK Youth Mobility Agreement Expansion
The new Canada-UK Youth Mobility Agreement will help youth to work in either country, as they were able to like before, but now some improvements are set to favor them further. The improvements set to implement in 2024 are:-
- Eligibility age extended to 18-35. Previously it was 18-30.
- Visa period extended to 3 years. Previously it was only valid for 2 years.
- More UK nationals would be able to immigrate to Canada as 2 new immigration streams will be launched.

Youth Mobility Agreement
This agreement actually came around 2008 and it focuses on promoting work opportunities in both countries. Take Canada and the United Kingdom for example, UK nationals wanting to work in Canada can do so via this Youth Mobility Agreement, they just need to meet the requirements.
This special agreement falls under the International Experience Canada (IEC) program. Every year, thousands of people are able to take advantage of the IEC and find suitable work opportunities. Under the bigger IEC program, there are 3 categories:
- Young Professional participants can go for an employer-specific work permit so they could get some targeted work experience. Those who are looking for some targeted work experience which will be relevant to their study or career path go for this IEC program.
- Working Holiday participants in this program can get an open work permit. An open work permit allows the visa holder to work for any employer in Canada.
- International Co-op (internships) participants are kind of similar to that of young professional participants. They also immigrate to Canada under this program as they need employer-specific work permits to gain relevant work experience in Canada.
In this year, Canada will likely accept 90,000+ applications under the International Experience Canada program. Canada has youth mobility agreements with 37 countries in the whole world! So, Canada plans on inviting such huge numbers of participants under the IEC to increase its labor market.
