Canada Temporary Resident Visa to Process Within 30 Days Now

IRCC made an announcement that the Canada Temporary Resident Visa for spousal applications will be processed within 30 days. Moreover, the approval rate of TRVs is even 90% so that’s a plus point for spouses of Canada PRs. An increased approval rate and less processing time means families in Canada will be able to reunite sooner.

Those spouses who have already applied for PR in Canada are eligible for this measure. Why do spouses need to apply for PR, when they are already living in Canada? Well, if the spouse of a Canadian PR wants to study or work in Canada, they have to apply for a study permit or a Canadian work visa . But if they get permanent residency, then they won’t have to apply for either. They can start working or studying as they please.

TRVs to Process Within 30 Days

This new measure is sure to make it easier for families in Canada to reunite sooner. IRCC Minister Sean Fraser announced on 26th May that IRCC will expedite the processing time of spousal TRV applications and finish them in under 30 days.

What happened earlier: an individual applies for PR in Canada, now their spouse or dependent family member also needs to come to Canada but they have to wait until the approval of the main applicant’s application.

After the announcement of this measure: an individual submits a completed PR application, their spouse or dependent family member can then apply for a Canada Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) and come to Canada. On top of that, they may even be able to apply for an open work permit. The TRV will get processed within 30 days. Also, the spouse must have applied for PR but in the meantime they can live in Canada instead of await IRCC’s decision will being in their home country.

Other Family Reunification Way

Another way to reunite families is Family Class Sponsorship. Usually, an application for permanent residence under the Family Class Sponsorship takes around 12 months to get processed. But since the TRV processing time is now reduced and IRCC has been progressing when it comes to processing applications, it is expected that sponsorship applications will also be processed sooner.

IRCC may be able to process sponsorship applications in under three months. Moreover, these sponsored spouse, partner, or dependent children may also be eligible to work while their PR application is in progress.
