Canada PR Steps Explained in Detail

When we talk about Canada Immigration and PR, the first thing that comes into our mind is “how can we get the PR, and what are Canada PR steps?” In this blog, we will tell you about the three pathways to getting Canadian PR in 2022. There are several ways to get Canadian PR. Today we will elaborate three of the best pathways to get Canadian PR. These 3 pathways are:

  • Express Entry
  • Provincial Nomination Program (PNP)
  • Family Sponsorship

These are three of the best pathways for Canadian PR. The sections below elaborate steps to adopt for each of the above Canada PR pathways.

Canada PR steps

For each and every program there are different Canada PR steps. In this section, we will tell you the steps specifically of each of these three pathways.

  • Express Entry– it is one of the most famous pathways to get Canadian PR. To apply for this pathway, you need to create your Express Entry profile. Firstly, you need to be eligible for the profile creation. There are three programs under Express Entry and you need to be eligible under any of these programs. These three programs are:
  1. FSWP or the Federal Skilled Skilled Worker Program.
  2. FSTP or the Federal Skilled Trades Program.
  3. CEC or the Canadian Experience Class.

Once you are eligible for profile creation, you need to create your profile. Details that you will fill in while creating the profile will get you CRS points. CRS stands for Comprehensive Ranking System. After the entire process of profile creation, you will enter into the Express pool. If your CRS points are above the CRS cut-off , then you will get the ITA after the draw. Once you receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), you will be asked to submit the documents to IRCC to substantiate your claims while creating your profile. After the verification, you will get the CoPR or Confirmation of Permanent Residence. You must apply to the IRCC within 60 days. These were the Canada PR steps in the Express Entry pathway.

PNP (Provincial Nominee Program)

In this process the Canada PR steps are quite different. Each of the Canadian provinces nominates a few immigrants for the PR. Canadian provinces invite immigrants to stay, work, and sustain their life in order to support their economy. For this, either you need to have an Express Entry profile or you need to be eligible under any of the sub-streams of the Canadian provinces. Once you get the nomination, you can apply for PR to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Getting a provincial nomination can also get you an additional 600  points if you have an Express Entry profile.

Family Sponsorship

If any of your relatives have Canadian PR or are Canadian citizens, then he or she can sponsor you for the PR. However one needs to apply for the PR first.

Documents Required

Steps to get Canada PR Documents Required

Updated and correct documents are one of the essential parts of Canada PR steps. As we have mentioned, after getting the ITA, you need to prove that the details filled by you are authentic and updated. IRCC will ask you to submit the documents for the further process. Some of the most important documents are

  • Education qualifications or the ECA report
  • Police certificate
  • Language test result
  • Medical certificate
  • Spouse or common-law partner documents
  • Work experience documents

Express Entry draws happen every two weeks. Thus, if you make it to the pool, you have the chance to get the ITA in the next draw. Other than this, there are several programs mentioned above that might help you achieve your dream of settling in  Canada.

How long it takes?

Usually, the entire Canada PR steps take 6 to 8 months. Sometimes different programs take different duration of time. Usually, we don’t understand that immigration is quite a lengthy process, so there’s a reason it takes normally from 6 months to 8 months in Express Entry, and in some of the programs like PNP it takes up to 1 year and more.

Canada PR vs Express Entry

Express Entry is one of the essential parts of the Canada PR steps, we can’t separate both of them. The only thing here to observe is the Canadian PR pathways. Express Entry isn’t the only pathway, there are many other pathways through which one can get Canadian PR. This is the only major thing in this section.
