On 16 February 2022, AINP (Alberta Immigration Nominee Program) was renamed and changed to AAIP (Alberta Advantage Immigration Program). In AAIP, entrepreneur Streams were also renamed.
Note: On April 3rd, 2023, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) reduced the minimum investment for the Rural Entrepreneur Stream. The minimum investment needed now is $100,000. Earlier, it was $200,000.

Alberta Entrepreneur Stream
Rural Entrepreneur is a Stream of Alberta Advantage Immigration Program, in which entrepreneurs who want to start and buy an existing business in a rural Alberta designated community can submit an expression of interest.

What is the eligibility requirement for Alberta Entrepreneur Stream?
- A candidate who has 3 years of experience as an active business owner or a candidate who has 4 years of experience as a senior manager within the past 10 years.
- Candidates who have completed high school which is equivalent to the Canadian standard and certified with an ECA.
- Candidate who has a minimum CLB level of 4 for each English and French (reading, writing, listening, and speaking)
- Candidate must have a higher investment of $100,000 of their own and spouse/common laws
- A candidate whose minimum net worth is $300,000
- Candidates require a minimum of 51% ownership for a new business
- Candidates who have a community support letter from a participating rural Alberta community can apply for this stream
- a candidate whose age is 21 to 49 may apply for the Rural Entrepreneur Stream.
Factors to increase your chance of receiving a request to submit an Application
- If the Age of the candidates lies between 21 to 49 it can increase the chances of receiving a request
- If your Spouse/common Law partner has at least one year of full-time post-secondary education or a minimum CLB level of 4 in English and French, then it can increase your chances.
- If you have relatives (stepfather, mother, stepmother, child or stepchild, sister or step-sister, and brother or stepbrother) in Alberta as permanent residents then this can increase your chances.
How to Apply through this Alberta Entrepreneur Stream?
- Read the terms and conditions of AAIP
- Alberta Advantage Immigration Program reserves the right to close Application intake for any AAIP stream, category, pathway, stream, or pilot at any time without giving notice.
- If a candidate may not be economically established then AAIP has the right to decline the application.
- Review the eligibility criteria
- Before submitting an Expression of interest, candidates should review the eligibility criteria.

- Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI)
- Candidates should meet the criteria of Rural Entrepreneur Stream before Submitting the Expression of Interest.
- Note that the rural entrepreneur stream business application form is not available online, the only candidate who receives a request to submit the application will be able to access the AAIP portal.
- The official portal name is MyAlberta Digital ID (MADI).
- Entrepreneur will Submit the Business Application Package
- You can submit the business application package online after receiving the request to submit it.
- Upload the required Rural Entrepreneur Stream – Business Application Document Checklist document and forms in the AAIP official portal
- And lastly, pay the $3,500 non-refundable fee.
- Business Application Assessment
- After receiving the business application package, AAIP will assess your application. But note that there is no guarantee that all the candidates who meet the criteria will be issued a nomination.
- Note that AAIP will contact you, you should have to answer otherwise they will decline your Application.
- Establish your own business in Alberta
- Relocate in a rural Alberta Community
- Operate a business in a rural Alberta community for at least 12 months or more with at least 51% ownership in establishing a new business or 100% ownership.
- Candidate should meet all the conditions of the business performance Agreement
- Show that the business is operating successfully by giving products or services after one year of operation
- After demonstrating all the conditions, submit the final report for the nomination.

- Candidates can apply to be nominated by the AAIP for permanent residency if they satisfy all the conditions of the business performance Agreement
When to Apply For PR through Alberta Entrepreneur Stream?
After you are nominated under the Rural Entrepreneur Stream you must apply for permanent residence within 6 months. Candidates must maintain the status to live and work in Alberta While their application for Permanent residence is in process.
Note that AAIP will immediately withdraw your nomination if you no longer meet the requirements and conditions of the nomination. Don’t try to mislead the information in your AAIP business Application
Step 1. Candidate must review the nomination Package:
The nomination will be sent to you by email, carefully read each and everything in the package carefully. Contact the program officer if any mistakes you find on your nomination and make a copy of your nomination for your personal records. IRCC may ask you to provide a copy of this nomination certificate to renew your work permit.
Step 2. Be ready with your Permanent residence application ready
Be quick with Applying for IRCC because the nomination certificates are valid only for 6 months. The sooner you apply the sooner you can get an Acknowledgement of Receipt of your application from the IRCC file number.

Alberta Entrepreneur Stream Expression of interest pool
In Alberta Entrepreneur stream candidates must submit a profile to an Expression of interest pool and on this basis points are Awarded accordingly on the Rural Entrepreneur Stream Points Grid. EOI information includes a business proposal summary, net worth worksheet, and community support letter, it will be assessed and points will be awarded by the AAIP.
