Steps to Get a Canadian Citizenship: Explained in Detail
Below are the steps to get Canadian citizenship for Indians and citizens of other countries explained in detail:
Step 1: Create Account Online
First of all, create an account online to apply for Canadian citizenship. Most of the applicants go for the online application option, and only a few choose to apply on paper.
If you choose to apply for Canadian citizenship on paper, get an application package which will contain all the forms you need to fill out and a document checklist.
Step 2: Choose Application Type
After creating an account, sign in and select the kind of application you will be submitting. If you are applying just for yourself, choose the Adult (18 years of older option), or if you are applying for a minor, choose the option considerably.
Step 3: Provide Required Information
Once you start the application, you will be asked to provide information about yourself, and if anyone is accompanying you, about themselves too.
The system would ask you questions such as:
- The language you prefer for services
- Your Unique Client Identifier (UCI)
- Your name, gender, height, date of birth, eye color, place of birth, marital, status, address, phone number, etc
- Upload 1 citizenship photo
- Police certificate
- Taxes
- Your travel documents of the last 5 years
- Employment and education history of the last 5 years
- Language test results
- If you meet physical presence requirement
Step 4: Pay the Fee
Once you have provided all the information, and uploaded the documents, pay the fee. After paying the Canadian citizenship fee, you will get the fee receipt. Upload the fee receipt in the required format.
Step 5: Submit the Application
Review the application once you have completed all the steps. At the end of the application, the account will let you know if any of the forms are unfinished. Incomplete applications will not be submitted, so make sure to clear each stage of the application process before signing and submitting it.
You must submit this application within 60 days of time or your account will be deleted by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
