Women and girls all over the world face different forms of abuse and violence. This abuse can take various forms and affects almost every woman in every society. However, what matters is that which society is taking action against it and pledging to take actions for the betterment of women.
Canada is the kind of country that completely condemns any and all forms of violence, along with abuse that girls and women face. Furthermore, Canada established and renewed its mandate for a UN Special Rapporteur. This mandate was on violence against women, and it included the cause and consequences of those violence too.
To end child marriage, and forced marriage, Canada is an international leader. What’s more is that it has been a leading nation both at the Human Rights Council as well as the UN General Assembly.
Rights of Women in Canada
Women’s rights are, without a doubt, human rights. Especially if we are talking about equality rights. However, why are equality rights so important? Well, it’s because, for decades women have been experiencing abuse and violence all over the world.
However, it’s the 21st century and it is time to end this discrimination. Hence, in Canada, there exists some legal instruments that protect women and their equality.
First one is the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. It, essentially, gives constitutional rights and protections to people.
And then, there’s Section 15 and Section 28 that also protect women rights.

Maternity Leave
Women receive maternity leaves as early as 12 weeks before their due date. They receive these benefits up to 15 weeks.
Employment Benefits
Other than CHRA and the Charter, there are Employment Equity Act and federal Pay Equity Act.
The Employment Equity Act aims to create equality in the workplace. Hence, no person shall feel discriminated against in the workplace.
The Pay Equity Act came to force in August 2021, and works to bring equality in terms of income.
