Quebec-Stops-LMIA-Processing-for-Low-Wage-Jobs-Starting-3-Sept

The provincial government of Quebec announced that from 3rd September 2024 it will not process new LMIA applications of those with a low-wage job offer in the Montreal region. The Quebec government describes low-wage jobs as those with hourly wage below CAD $27.47.

This is a temporary condition and will be kept in place for the next 6 months. This temporary measure has been approved by the federal government of Canada. The reason behind this suspension is to manage the temporary workers level in Canada.

This measure only applies to those applicants who are applying under the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) program.

Moreover, this temporary measure will apply to you if you have a job offer to work in any of these regions:

  • Baie-d’Urfé
  • Beaconsfield
  • Côte-Saint-Luc
  • Dollard-des-Ormeaux
  • Dorval
  • Hampstead
  • Kirkland
  • L’Île-Dorval
  • Montréal
  • Montréal East
  • Montréal West
  • Mount Royal
  • Pointe-Claire
  • Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue
  • Senneville
  • Westmount

However, if you are applying for an LMIA, under TFWP, in a low-wage job position, before 3rd September, your application may still be accepted.
