The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s Minister, Marc Miller, has proposed some new changes for temporary residents arriving in Canada. If the propositions are approved, it would put a stricter limit on the number of temporary residents arriving in the country. However, this doesn’t mean you couldn’t apply for permanent residence.
In fact, IRCC has proposed to bring in a new permanent residence pathway for semi-skilled workers. If IRPA approves this amendment, international workers with work experience in TEER categories 4 and 5 will be able to immigrate to Canada.

What are the new changes for temporary workers in Canada?
One of the new changes for temporary workers include changes to Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). Through this change, individuals applying for a PGWP to work in an in-demand occupation will be prioritized. This will help fulfill the labour shortage in the Canadian labour market.
In recent interviews, IRCC has proposed to bring in new changes to limit the number of temporary residents coming to Canada. Temporary residents include international students on a study permit and study visa, international workers on work permits and work visas, along with others.
Other changes are yet to be announced by IRCC Minister, Marc Miller, and it is expected that the department would reveal them in the coming weeks.
