The latest PNP news is about Alberta Opportunity Stream resuming on 11 June 2024. After being on pause for 3 months and 27 days, the AOS stream is set to resume with new guidelines which will allow the stream to process applications much faster.
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) will be updating the guidelines for various streams, effective June 11. The new guidelines will be for
- Alberta Opportunity Stream
- Rural Renewal Stream, and
- Accelerated Tech Pathway
The guidelines AAIP will be changing for the aforementioned streams will somewhat mimic the guidelines as that of Tourism and Hospitality Stream.

Understanding AOS Pause and Resumption Timeline
On February 15th 2024, AAIP paused AOS. The reason behind putting it’s one of the most popular streams on hold was to let AAIP focus on processing applications submitted under its priority industries.
However, now that the AAIP has come up with a definite system of processing applications, it is resuming AOS from 11 June. This is quite good news as eager applicants waiting to submit an application will now be able to do so.
Moreover, AAIP has done something quite helpful for applicants anticipating Alberta PNP draws.
AAIP Application Acceptance Dates
Alberta will now be accepting PNP applications on particular dates only. This might mean that the draws will only happen on those particular dates. For the rest of 2024, there are 7 such dates allotted, one in each month.
Along with the dates, AAIP has also announced a sort of target of how many applications it will accept on particular dates. This is because more people were applying to Alberta than the province can accept, according to its nomination allocations. Further, the total number of applications that Alberta can approve for nominations in 2024 is 9,750. This number was recently allocated to Alberta by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

NOTE: Applications submitted under the Alberta Entrepreneur Streams will be processed if they meet the eligibility requirements.
