British Columbia is set to make the process of getting a job in Canada easier for international workers. To achieve this goal, the province’s recently introduced International Credentials Recognition Act will eliminate the Canadian work experience requirement for most of the foreign workers, language proficiency requirements for some workers, and expedite the processing times for all processing times. This act will come into effect starting 1 July 2024.

The International Credentials Recognition Act will help foreign workers get their credentials recognised in a much faster and easier way. For this, the provincial government will require 18 of its regulatory bodies to eliminate the barriers in 29 professions so as to make their credential recognition process faster. 

The professions that will benefit from this change are:

  1. Applied biology technician
  2. Applied science technologist
  3. Architect
  4. Associate real estate broker
  5. Certified technician
  6. Chartered professional accountant
  7. Conditional teaching certificate holder
  8. Early childhood educator
  9. Early childhood educator assistant
  10. Emergency medical assistant, including paramedics
  11. Landscape architect
  12. Land surveyor
  13. Lawyer
  14. Managing real estate broker
  15. Notary public
  16. Professional agrologist
  17. Professional biologist
  18. Professional engineer
  19. Professional geoscientist
  20. Professional teaching certificate holder
  21. Real estate representative
  22. Registered biology technologist
  23. Registered clinical social worker
  24. Registered forest technologist
  25. Registered music teacher
  26. Registered professional forester
  27. Social worker
  28. Technical agrologist
  29. Veterinarian
