In today’s Express Entry Round, 3,515 Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 440 or higher were issued invitations.
Express Entry cut-offs continue to collapse as a substantial number of CEC-specific candidates were invited by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Today’s CEC-specific Express Entry draw has been the largest since 1 May, and the second largest since special coronavirus measures were introduced in mid-March by the Canadian government.
The drawing of 28 May continued a pattern which saw the cut-off CRS score decrease since the last full-length draw on 4 March 2020 in each of the last 6 CEC draws. The relatively frequent interval and frequency between drawings maintained by IRCC in the last two months can partly explain this tendency. It’s an important factor to have had an effect on the CRS cut-off score between draws. Shorter intervals result in fewer candidates to enter their profile in the Express Entry pool.
This cut-off score of 440 is a showcases a decrease of 7 points from the previous draw held on May 15, which recorded a minimum score of 447, which was the lowest cut-off point since January 2019.
Today’s CEC draw was the second invitation round in 24 hours, which invited candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residency. The draw held on the 27th of May issued 385 invitations for Express Entry candidates nominated by the PNP. These candidates had a minimum CRS score of 757.
A further 600 points in addition to the initial human capital score will be awarded to provincial nominee candidates in an express entry pool. This is why, for draws like the one conducted yesterday, the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement is often much higher.
At present, profiles of candidates for Canada’s three primary economic-class immigration programs are overseen by the Express Entry system — the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class.
The candidates are ranked on the basis of a score given under CRS that takes into account factors such as age, education, work experience, and language abilities in English or French. A number of the highest scoring candidates are then issued an ITA through frequent drawings from the pool. The IRCC typically targets processing permanent residency applications within a span of six months.
In that draw, IRCC applied the rule of tie-break, and the date of March 7, 2020 at the time of 10:36:59 UTC. This means that in this Invitation round, all CEC candidates with a CRS score of at least 440 who sent their profile before this date and time earned an ITA.
Today’s draw brings the total ITAs that were issued in 2020 to 42,100.
The Express Entry program has remained operational, with candidates still able to submit a profile. However, the immigration policies and procedures in Canada after 18 March have experienced substantial changes owing to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).
In the last two months, the IRCC has organized a total of 12 Canadian Experience Class and Provincial Nominee Program draws. In comparison to immigrant categories which arrive through means of other Express Entry-linked programs, applicants are more likely to be in Canada, so the current travel restrictions do not impact them.
