Canada issues 3,400 new Invitations to Apply for Express Entry candidates for permanent residency

The cut-off scores dropped to two points in the Express Entry draw held on January 22. In the latest Express Entry draw, Canada issued ITAs to 3,400 new Express Entry candidates. The cut-off score was recorded to be 471 – which is a two pointe reduction over the minimum CRS score recorded in the previous Express Entry draw.

So far in 2020, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued a total of 6,800 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) through its Express Entry streams. The maple leaf country has higher admission targets for 2020 and 2021 – through its three distinct Express Entry categories. The IRCC intends on issuing 85,800 ITAs this year and 88,800 in 2021, for its new permanent residency applicants.

How does the Express Entry selection system work?
At present, the Express Entry system manages three federal high skilled immigration programs – Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class, and Canadian Experience Class. These streams are Canada’s primary source of skilled foreign workers.

Candidates which qualify through one of these categories are issued a score under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The system awards candidates with points based on factors such as age, education qualifications, work experience, language proficiency, and adaptability. Although you do not need a valid job offer to apply through the Express Entry program – the CRS does award additional points to candidates who have one.

Candidates with the highest scores are then randomly selected from the Express Entry pool and are issued Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency. Draws are held typically every two weeks.

The draw for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on 09th May 2019 was at 01:16:02 UTC. This states that an ITA was issued for all candidates with a CRS score of 471 or above, who had submitted their profile before that date and time. A processing standard of 6 months for permanent residency applications has been set by the government of Canada.
