British Columbia, through its Tech Pilot, invited 75 Skills Immigration and Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residency on April 29.
The Tech Pilot is issuing invites to qualifying international tech employees with a valid job offer in one of the province’s 29 in-demand technology occupations. Invitations went to both the Express Entry BC (EEBC) and Skills Immigration streams for Skilled Workers and International Graduates. The minimum score needed for candidates in both the categories of Skilled Worker and International Graduates was 85.
Candidates for the EEBC must be registered with both the Federal Express Entry System and the Skills Immigration Registration Service (SIRS) of B.C.
Express Entry candidates earn an extra 600 points to their Comprehensive Ranking System – CRS score with a provincial nomination.
Only Skills Immigration candidates needs to be registered with the SIRS.
As part of the registration process, candidates are given a score based on factors such as education, work experience and language skills, where the highest-scoring candidates are invited to apply in weekly Tech Pilot draws.
Introduced in 2017, the Tech Pilot identifies labour demands that can not be fulfilled locally in British Columbia’s tech sector. The goal is to insure that B.C.’s tech sector has exposure to the talent it requires to continue expanding. Within the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP), Tech Pilot candidates are exempt from the permanent-full-time job offer provision that applies to other immigration categories.
Nevertheless, Tech Pilot candidates must show a job offer that has a duration of at least one year with a minimum of 120 calendar days remaining at the time they apply for a provincial nomination.
