On March 8, Canada welcomed 671 Express Entry candidates to submit their permanent residency applications.
Candidates with a minimum CRS score of 739 were invited by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). This score requirement seems to be high, but it is because anyone who was invited has already been nominated by a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
Candidates who receive a provincial nomination for Express Entry receive an additional 600 points on top of their overall human capital score. Candidates without the provincial nomination had a Comprehensive Ranking System – CRS score of 139.
According to the tie-break rule, candidates with a minimum score of 739 were only considered if they submitted their Express Entry profile before February 16, 2021, at 19:10:25 UTC.
Canada has issued 38,657 Invitations to Apply (ITA) so far this year. This is more than three times the amount of ITAs released by the IRCC at this point last year. Because of the low number of new immigrants accepted in 2020, Canada has set a monumental task of welcoming 401,00 immigrants by 2021. The majority of these will be processed through the Express Entry system.

The bulk of these invites came from the previous draw on Saturday, February 13, when IRCC issued 27,332 ITAs. This was not only the largest Express Entry draw ever, but it also had a CRS requirement of 75 – which was historically low.
It’s uncommon for draws to take place more than two weeks apart The Saturday draw, when every single candidate in the Express Entry pool who was qualifying for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) was invited to apply for permanent residency – took place 22 days ago.
