On July 7th – the Canadian government invited 627 Express Entry candidates for permanent residency. Only candidates with a provincial nomination were invited in this latest invitation round. The minimum CRS score required was 760 points.
Since candidates with a nomination from a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) are automatically awarded 600 points to their CRS scores – the cut-off score was relatively high.
The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) also established a cut-off time for tie-breaker rule. This is mandatory – and does not justify an actual tie. Candidates who met the minimum CRS score and had their profiles in the Express Entry pool before June 14, 2021 at 07:44:05 UTC were only invited.
Higher Number of Pnp Candidates Invited
IRCC has been holding PNP-specific and Canadian Experience Class (CEC)-specific draws throughout the pandemic. The reasons being that candidates are most likely to be already living in Canada – and less likely to be sabotaged by public health-care travel restrictions.
The IRCC has been inviting high number of candidates in its recent PNP-specific draws. On June 23, for the first time ever – IRCC invited more than 1,000 candidates. Before that, the highest number of candidates invited were 940.
These increase in the number of candidates invited is mostly part of Canada’s Immigration Level Plans 2021-2023. The government of Canada has committed to welcome over 401,000 new aspiring immigrants to the country this year. More than a quarter of which are expected to process their immigration applications through the Express Entry program. So far, IRCC has invited 89,342 Express Entry candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residency.
So far this year, Canada has invited twice as many Express Entry candidates than at the same time – last year. The large number of invites is majorly from the historic February 13 Express Entry draw. IRCC invited every single CEC-eligible candidate in that draw (27,332 to be precise).
PNP-only and CEC-only draws have vastly different score requirements. As discussed above, PNP-only draws have a comparatively higher CRS score because of the additional points (600) awarded to the final CRS score. CEC draws have a lower cut-off requirement as candidates are not competing for invitations from other programs.
