“Number of ITAs issued rises significantly in the new Express Entry draw targeting PNP candidates.”
Candidates who had previously received provincial nominations were targeted in Canada’s Express Entry draw on August 4th.
512 candidates with a minimum score of 760 were invited by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Candidates in the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) receive 600 points automatically when they receive their provincial nomination, which explains the relatively high score.
462 Express Entry candidates with scores of at least 734 were invited to apply for permanent residence in the previous PNP invitation round.
The IRCC also published a tie-break rule cut-off time. This is merely a procedural requirement; it does not imply that there was an actual tie. Candidates with the minimum CRS score were only invited if their Express Entry profile was submitted before March 5, 2021, at 22:38:31 UTC.
Why a PNP-only Draw?
Since the beginning of 2021, IRCC has only held Express Entry draws for the PNP and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC). The IRCC has made an effort to admit candidates who are already living in Canada.
Despite the fact that PNP candidates are not necessarily in Canada, at least in the same numbers as CEC candidates, the federal government should continue to collaborate with its provincial partners. Immigration is a shared responsibility in Canada. Numerous studies have shown that immigrants who are chosen based on the local labor market need to succeed. On average, candidates who have never set foot in Canada before obtaining permanent residency have fared better in the labor market than candidates who have never set foot in Canada.
Outland PNP applicants are also less concerned about travel restrictions. This is due to the fact that on June 21, Canada opened its border to approved permanent residents. Those who are invited today may have to wait months for their Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR), which is the final document required to become a landed permanent resident in Canada.

Express Entry Invitations Ahead of 2019 Levels
When compared to the same period last year, the number of Invitations to Apply (ITAs) has nearly doubled. This indicates that the IRCC is stepping up its efforts to admit 108,500 newcomers through the Express Entry system by 2021. A total of 99,316 PNP and CEC candidates have been invited so far this year.
Due to the nature of CEC and PNP-only draws, the minimum score requirements have fluctuated. Because the draws are concentrated in one silo of applicants, CEC draws typically have lower cut-offs. In the Federal Skilled Worker Program, for example, they are not competing with others. As a result, larger draw sizes allow IRCC to invite more candidates, lowering the score.
PNP candidates, on the other hand, receive 600 points for their provincial nomination. PNP draws will always be higher than any other type of Express Entry draws due to this fact.
