502 Express Entry Candidates Invited In New Ontario PNP Draw

“The British Columbia PNP is designed to welcome high-demand foreign workers who wish to become permanent residents.”

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) drawings held on January 11 resulted in the invitation of 232 immigration candidates.

Through the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP), the province held two draws, inviting candidates from the Skills Immigration (SI) and Express Entry BC (EEBC) streams.

Those from the Skilled Worker, International Graduate, Entry Level, and Semi-Skilled sub-categories of the SI and EEBC streams received invitations.

A general draw was used to issue the majority of the invites, which totalled 201. These candidates got invites provided they met the minimal score criteria, which varied from 78 to 110 depending on the program.

Another draw targeted candidates with NOC 0621 (retail and wholesale trade managers) or NOC 0631 (restaurant and food service managers). That draw yielded 31 invites, all of which had minimum scores of 110.

British Columbia has been conducting a separate round of invites twice a month as part of its PNP program since late February. Because of the large number of candidates from certain labour market sectors who have registered in the province’s Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS), these drawings are being held.

What Is Express Entry?

The Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) are all managed by the Express Entry system. Candidates who have applied for Express Entry may be eligible for one or more of these programs.

Once a candidate is accepted into the Express Entry pool, IRCC assigns points based on human capital factors such as age, work experience, education, English or French language proficiency, and other variables. The highest scorers are then invited to apply in an Express Entry draw.

Express Entry candidates who are nominated by a PNP receive an automatic 600 CRS point boost to their overall score. This practically ensures that they will be issued an ITA in the next Express Entry draw.

During the pandemic, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) held PNP-only draws, in which candidates were only invited if they had a PNP.
