“Manitoba’s government has invited 443 immigrant candidates to apply for a provincial nomination to start the year.”
The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) invited candidates to apply under three different Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) in Manitoba. The number of invites sent out for each programs, as well as the minimal score cut-off set by the province’s Expression of Interest (EOI) system, are listed below:
- Skilled Workers in Manitoba — 357 invitations with a minimum score of 459;
- Skilled Workers Overseas — 53 invitations with a minimum score of 711; and
- International Education Stream — 33 invitations with no score requirement.
Among these invitations, 97 were issued to candidates in the Express Entry system.
About Express Entry
At present, the Express Entry system manages three federal high-skilled immigration programs: the Canadian Experience Class, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is used to evaluate immigration candidates who submit a profile to the Express Entry system. Age, work experience, education, and language skills, among other things, are all awarded points. Through regular Express Entry draws, the highest-scoring candidates are invited to apply for permanent residency.
By applying directly through Express Entry, it is possible to bypass the PNP system and get a permanent residency invitation. A provincial nomination, on the other hand, earns candidates an automatic 600 CRS points, effectively ensuring that they will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in a subsequent Express Entry draw.
Manitoba’s Immigration Programs
The MPNP, which supports immigration applications to the federal government, is in charge of Manitoba’s immigration programs. Provinces in Canada do not have the authority to grant permanent residency, although they can support an application by issuing provincial nominations.
If you seek to be considered for a nomination in Manitoba, you must first submit an Expression of Interest to the MPNP. This entitles you for a LAA through the Manitoba Skilled Workers and Manitoba Skilled Workers Overseas programs.
Manitoba then assigns a score out of 1,000 to candidates based on their human capital and connections to the province.
The Skilled Workers Overseas and Skilled Workers in Manitoba categories are designed to help Manitoba identify candidates who satisfy the province’s labour market demands.
Candidates from outside of Manitoba must demonstrate ties to the province, such as close family ties, prior experience in the province, or an invitation through one of Manitoba’s Strategic Recruitment Initiatives. To be eligible, you do not need to live in Manitoba at the time of your application.
You must have a full-time job offer from a provincial employer to be eligible for an invitation under the Skilled Workers in Manitoba category.
For candidates who can demonstrate that they have in-demand skills, international graduates who complete their education in Manitoba may be eligible for an invitation under the International Education Stream.
