On September 30th, Canada conducted a new Express Entry draw. Among today’s successful applicants for the third consecutive draw were Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) candidates.
In this latest invitation round, the minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score was 471, a 1 point decrease over the previous all-program draw, which took place on September 16. A clear indicator that Canada remains committed to accepting high levels of immigration in 2021 and beyond is the large number of Invitations to Apply (ITA) issued today.
Canada’s Express Entry system handles the candidate profiles of the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC) for three of Canada’s major economic-class immigration programs.
Qualified candidates for the FSWP, FSTP, CEC programs and some Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates are ranked on the basis of the Comprehensive Ranking System, or CRS, in the Express Entry system.
The CRS points calculator considers different variables, including age, work experience , education and French or English proficiency. An ITA is earned by the highest-ranked candidates in the Express Entry pool and they may apply for Canadian permanent residence at that stage.
So far in 2020, Canada has sent out 78,350 ITAs, which is well above the 69,420 that were issued at the same time in 2017, another Express Entry record-breaking year.
The latest draw was the tie-breaking rule implemented at 12:37:25 UTC on March 2, 2020. This means that in this invitation round, all candidates with a CRS score of 471 and above who submitted their profile before that date and time have received an ITA.
This latest Express Entry invitation round was Canada’s 164th draw held by Immigration , Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It was also the year’s 31st draw and the fifth all-program draw held since March 18, when Canada went into lockdown.
While the vast majority of Express Entry includes applicants from all 3 programmes, IRCC began to make exceptions to that rule after the outbreak of the pandemic and the introduction of travel restrictions. The IRCC was alternating between the CEC programme and the PNP draws between March and early July, although the combined ITAs of the two draws are generally of 3,900 invitations.
