392 Express Entry candidates receive ITAs

On June 24, Canada organized another round of invitations to Express Entry, inviting candidates who had provincial nominations.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 392 invitations for candidates with scores of 696 or higher in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Each of these candidates have already secured provincial nominations and were given a further 600 points against their total ranking. This means the candidate would have had a CRS of 96 without the Provincial nomination.

To determine which Express Entry candidates would have a high likelihood of succeeding in the Canadian labour market, the CRS ranks human capital factors such as age, work experience, education and official language skills.

Express Entry is Canada’s primary route to permanent residency for skilled foreign workers and manages the pool of Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class, and Canadian Experience Class candidates.

In this draw a tie-break rule had been implemented. For this round, all candidates with a CRS score of at least 696 who sent their profile at 10:39:30 UTC prior to April 23, 2020, obtained an ITA.

Canada has conducted regular Express Entry draws targeting provincial nominees and Canadian Experience Class candidates after the government introduced new coronavirus measures restricting travel on March 18.

So far, the Canadian government has organized 15 draws across these two initiatives and given tens of thousands of Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residency in Canada. Currently immigration targets are on track to exceed the levels of last year. Given the travel restrictions, this year more ITAs have been issued than in 2019 at the same period. A total of 46,392 principal candidates have so far been invited to apply for permanent residency in 2020 as of June 24.

Recent weeks have also witnessed an impressive amount of activity among the provincial nominee streams linking Express Entry to Canada. In the past 7 days alone, Canada’s provinces have contacted more than a thousand Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination.

These sources allow Canadian provinces and territories to select candidates through the federal Express Entry program who fulfil their specific labour market requirements and nominate them for permanent residence in Canada. The first step is to submit an Express Entry Profile to be eligible for a provincial nomination via one of Canada’s Express Entry-linked streams.
