On July 23, Canada held another Express Entry draw, the second round of invitations which took place within two days.
A total of 3,343 Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates earned invitations. A score of 445 in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) was sufficient to guarantee an Invitation to Apply (ITA).
The cut-off score for CRS was 14 points higher than the last CEC-specific draw held on June 25, which had a cut-off CRS score of 431. The increase in points is attributed to more candidates joining the pool over the last month since Canada hosted an all-program draw on July 8.
Such program-specific draws have been conducted by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) since the coronavirus pandemic forced Canada’s border to close in March. It also took place immediately after specific draws for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), and the number of ITAs from the two draws combined add up to a round number.
Yesterday the IRCC returned with 557 PNP candidates receiving ITAs in the program-specific draws.
Express Entry is a system used by the federal government to handle applications for the three primary programs of Canada’s economic class: The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) and the Canadian Experience Class(CEC). Many provinces also have provincial programs aligning themselves with the Express Entry system.
Candidates are classified in the Express Entry system based on their CRS score, which takes into consideration several factors including their age, work experience, education and French or English proficiency. For certain cases, a rating factor is also the date and time the Express Entry profile was created at.
Today’s draw saw implementation of the tie-break rule. Depending on the date and time the profile was created, the tie-break rule is used to rate candidates who have the same CRS score (at the cut-off).
The tie-breaking rule for today’s draw was brought into practice at 15:16:55 UTC on July 12, 2020. It ensures that candidates with a CRS score of 445 would only be invited if they submitted their profile before this date and time.
The draw takes to 57,700 – the total number of invitations issued in 2020. This figure, despite coronavirus, still exceeds the amount of invitations issued last year and the year before at the same time.
Candidates seeking to submit their Express Entry profile can always do so given any restrictions in effect relating to coronavirus. IRCC continues to accept Express Entry applications.
