Canada held another round of invitations for the Express Entry candidates on August 20.
The latest Express Entry draw, held by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC), was the second in two days and the 161st overall.
A total of 3,300 Canadian Experience Class(CEC) candidates were invited to apply. A score of 454 in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) was necessary to ensure an Invitation to Apply (ITA) is received.
The cut-off score for CRS today was nine points higher than the previous CEC-specific draw on July 23, which had a cut-off score of 445 on CRS. The points boost is attributed to further candidates joining the pool during the past month since Canada hosted an all-program draw on August 5.
Just after coronavirus pandemic put Canada’s border to a close in March, IRCC conducted these program-specific draws. They also occurred after different draws for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), and the number of ITAs from the two drawings together adds up to a round number. IRCC conducted a program-specific draw yesterday with 600 PNP candidates earning the ITAs.
Express Entry is a system used by the federal government to manage candidates for the three major economic-level systems in Canada: Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
Some provinces also have provincial programs aligning themselves with the Express Entry system.
Candidates are classified in the Express Entry program based on their CRS score, which takes into consideration several factors such as their age, work experience, experience and French or English proficiency. In certain instances, a rating factor is also the date and time the Express Entry profile was generated at.
In today’s draw the IRCC has introduced a tie-break rule. The tie-break rule is used to rate applicants with the same CRS cut-off score depending on the date and time they created their profile. The tie-breaking law for today’s draw was brought into practice at 11:10:05 UTC on July 27, 2020. This implies that candidates with a CRS score of 454 will only be accepted if they sent their profile before this date and period.
This selection takes the total number of invites to 65,750, given in 2020.
This figure, despite coronavirus, far exceeds the number of invitations issued all last year and the year before at the same time.
Candidates seeking to apply their Express Entry profile can always do so given any limitations in effect relating to coronavirus. IRCC continues to accept submissions to the Express Entry program and to process permanent residency applications.
