The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) issued 226 new invitations to apply for a nomination for Canadian permanent residence in a draw held March 26.
The MPNP is part of the Provincial Nominee Program of Canada which allows Manitoba to nominate a certain number of economic immigration candidates annually, across a range of streams intended to meet different labour market demands in the province. With the gradual closure of borders and the abrupt economic slowdown, the global health crisis has undoubtedly changed the international mobility and immigration system. However, last week, the federal government confirmed that immigrants who have already made a commitment to work, study or settle in Canada will be excluded from these travel bans. Such restrictions came into effect on 26 March. This successful trend in Canadian immigration is complemented by the fact that several provinces tend to accept immigration applications and maintain regular draws, even if specific immigration initiatives are in place.
226 candidates from the Skilled Workers of the MPNP in Manitoba, International Education and Skilled Workers Overseas streams, were invited on the March 26 draw of the province. Those invitations broke down as follows:
– Skilled Workers in Manitoba: 168
– International Education Stream: 20
– Skilled Workers Overseas: 38
Immigrant candidates must first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) of their candidacy for permanent Canadian residency to the MPNP, among other specifics, the necessary information regarding education, work experience, English or French skills as well as Manitoba connections. Eligible profiles are assigned a ranking and placed in the appropriate candidate pool, and a Letter of Advice for the Provincial Nomination is provided for those with the maximum score through regular draws.
29 of the 226 Letters of Advice issued in this draw went to the candidates of Express Entry. An additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System – CRS score is earned and an opportunity to qualify for a Canadian permanent residence at the subsequent Federal Express Entry draw would essentially be assured for candidates with a provincial nomination.
The lowest score in the draw for 26 March was 496 for skilled workers in Manitoba and 714 for skilled workers from overseas. Manitoba Stream skilled workers are open to eligible temporary foreign workers and international student graduates currently working in Manitoba and are offered permanent employment with their employer in Manitoba.
The invitations of 26 March have taken this year’s number to 1523 by the MPNP across these streams.
