The latest draw held by the province of Saskatchewan invited a total of 205 candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.
The invitations were issued on 26 March by the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP). Nevertheless, candidates did not require a job offer to be selected, they were required one year’s work experience in their area of study.
Since Canada had declared its special immigration steps for coronaviruses on March 16, BC, Manitoba and Saskatchewan all have retained provincial nominee program draws. In addition to the federal Express Entry on 18 March, only provincial nominees selected are eligible for these draws. The accepted candidates were evaluated under Saskatchewan’s In-demand occupations subcategory with either a closer family member present in Saskatchewan or they had enrolled at a post-secondary education in the province.
This draw featured college instructors, medical laboratory technologists and corporate sales managers in some of the 71 occupations. The applicants even had to apply a SINP profile of Expression of Interest (EOI). The EOI program in Saskatchewan allows the government to select immigration applicants in the prairie province who had the potential to thrive. An EOI profile will be issued to potential applicants where they will be evaluated on the work experience, education, language skills, age and connections with the province, and showcase their ability to stay in Saskatchewan.
The SINP’s International Skilled Worker Points Assessment Grid then provides qualifying candidates a total of 100 points. The highest scoring applicants are eligible to apply for a provincial nomination for permanent residency in Canada. At the draw of 26 March, the minimum score was 75.
Saskatchewan provincial nominee programs
So far this year, SINP has invited 1124 Occupation in-demand candidates. In the Saskatchewan Express Entry sub-category, 845 candidates were invited to submit an application for a provincial nomination, where the total number goes up to 1969.
The Express Entry subcategory of Saskatchewan is related to the Federal Express Entry System, which at present – manages the pool of candidates for three of Canada’s leading immigration programs: The Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program and the Canadian Experience Class.
In order to be considered for an invitation to apply for a provincial nomination, the candidates with an Express Entry profile are required to create an EOI profile for Saskatchewan. An extra 600 points to their Comprehensive Ranking System – CRS score would be awarded to candidates applying for or receiving a provincial nomination from the province of Saskatchewan at the federal level, and furthermore, an invitation to apply for a Canadian permanently residency will essentially be guaranteed.
