18 Entrepreneurs invited in the new immigration draw of British Columbia

On April 6, 18 invitations were issued to apply for candidates registered in the Entrepreneur Immigration-Regional Pilot program by the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program. In this draw the minimum score was 107, the lowest score since October 2019.

The Entrepreneur Immigration stream is for skilled and experienced business people searching for a path to a Canada PR and citizenship in B.C – and further grow in and run a commercially viable business that can offer the provincial economy significant advantages.

This was the 5th EI draw of 2020 and so far 62 invitations have been issued.

Entrepreneurs keen in moving to B.C. m ay choose from one of two categories of EI streams:

The Entrepreneur Immigration – Base category for experienced entrepreneurs planning to start up new companies or take over and develop current businesses in B.C.

The Entrepreneur Immigration – Regional pilot aimed to draw entrepreneurs to participating regional communities and start up innovative businesses that serve the economic growth needs of communities.

In 2019, the pilot program was introduced to allow communities to take an active part in attracting international entrepreneurs whose business concepts fit with the economic priorities.

Foreign entrepreneurs are referred by participating communities to the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP). The foreign entrepreneur will have visited the community and sent their business plan to the appointed pilot representative of the community, who would then provide the BCPNP with a frame of reference as part of the registration.

In contrast to the EI — base category, the pilot project reduces the personal net worth and the investment requirements. It represents the reduced start-up and settlement costs in British Columbia’s smaller communities than Vancouver or the province’s heavily developed metropolitan centers.

In order to qualify through the BC PNP Entrepreneur Immigration — Regional Pilot candidates’ must-

Conduct an investigative community visit;

Have a minimum of $100,000 in eligible business investments;

Have a minimum personal net worth of $300,000;

Have 3+ years of experience as an active business owner-manager or 4+ years as a senior manager within the last 5 years;

Taking ownership with a minimum of 51%;

Create for a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada at least one new job.

All candidates are required to send a full application to the BC PNP upon registration at the conclusion of the monthly invitation rounds.
