While Australia’s scheme requires a minimum of 60 points out of 135 to be qualified, Canada’s program demands a minimum of 67 points out of 100.

Please keep in mind, too, that in neither country will you be able to immigrate just by fulfilling the minimum points requirement. The application process doesn’t end after achieving the minimum points.

Application Procedures

Canada:

Express Entry is a system for managing immigration applications that includes Canada’s Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) program. Applicants who meet minimum points must create an Express Entry profile via immigration web portal. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score is give to applicants after they complete their Express Entry profiles. 

The Canadian government holds an Express Entry draw usually every two weeks, asking the applicants in the pool with the highest CRS scores to make official applications for permanent residency. If applicants are successful they enjoy permanent residency in Canada.

Australia:

The application procedure of Australia is as similar as Canada. Firstly, Applicants must meet the minimum requirements points to submit an application using Australia online system. Unlike Canada, Australia does not use a secondary points system, instead relying on its eligibility grid to rank candidates.

Approximately twice a month, US immigration sends out invites. Candidates with the highest ranked expressions of interest will be invite to apply. After receiving an application candidates have 60 days to submit an official application if the candidate is successful then they enjoy permanent residency in Australia.

Processing Cost

The Independent Skills program in Australia costs $3800 CAD for the primary candidate, plus an additional $2330 CAD for a spouse or partner, and $960 CAD for each child.

The Federal Skilled Worker program in Canada imposes a total price of $1365 CAD for each adult application, plus an extra $230 per kid.
