Nova Scotia Physician Stream

Nova-Scotia-Physician-Stream

The Nova Scotia Physician stream benefits the Nova Scotia Health Authority (NSHA) and the Izaak Walton Killam Health Centre (IWK). These health centres can hire general practitioners, family physicians, and specialist physicians through this stream.

The Physician stream is one of the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) streams, that assist foreign workers with the required skills to immigrate to Canada. However, these health centres may only invite international workers when they are unable to hire local Canadian citizens and PRs.

The Nova Scotia Physician Stream is only for applicants who have work experience in the following NOC codes:

  • NOC code 31102 – General Practitioners & Family Physicians
  • NOC code 31100 and NOC 31101 – Specialist Physicians

How to Apply for Nomination Through NSNP Physician Stream?

Follow these steps to apply for a nomination through the NSNP Physician Stream:

Step 1 – Create an account on the MyNS account and enter the required information. The online tool of the account will require you to provide information on the following topics:

  • Personal information
  • Previous travel information
  • Marital status
  • Family members, etc

Step 2- You must meet the eligibility criteria of the stream through which you are applying for a nomination. Once you provide the required information and upload the required documents, you may submit the application. It is recommended that you gather whichever documents you need beforehand so that you can fill out your application easily.

Step 3 – The NSNP will only begin processing your application once they make sure you have uploaded all the required documents and met the eligibility requirements. The NSNP might also need you to attend an interview in the province to assess you better.

Step 4 – If your profile meets the requirements, NSNP may approve your application and you will receive the nomination certificate via mail. This nomination is usually valid for about 12 months and you need to submit your immigration application within this time period.

In some cases and only after receiving adequate proof from the applicant can the Nova Scotia Nominee Program extend your nomination. The extension will only last 6 months and no further extension is allowed.

Step 5 – Now that you have a nomination certificate, apply for permanent residency at IRCC and wait for their approval.

Step 6 – You may also apply for a Letter of Support from Nova Scotia so that you may extend your existing work permit or apply for a new one. Use the work permit to work in Canada while your PR application is in process.

Step 7 – Let NSNP know about your arrival in Canada as a PR within 30 days of landing in the country.

Nova Scotia Physician Stream: Processing Time & Fee

Nova Scotia does not charge an application processing fee for any of its streams. However, you still need to pay to procure various documents, such as for language tests, Educational Credential Assessments (if you completed your studies outside Canada), etc.

Further, the provincial government does not take more than 6 months to process an application submitted through the Nova Scotia Physician stream in most cases.
