Step 1: Go to the CRA sign-in services

First things first, you need to go to the main web page, which is CRA sign-in services . Now, as you can see in the above screenshot, you should click on the “ how to register for My Account ” link. 

Step 2: Provide Necessary Information

After clicking on that link, you will arrive at this page. Now, this is where the main steps to register for My Account happen. You need to provide some personal information to register halfway for your account. 

The thing is, there’s two ways to do this. First, provide information as mentioned in the screenshot above and you would have access to some tax information. But once you enter the CRA security code too, you would have access to all the services available in My Account. Apart from that, you will also be able to access the Auto Fill My Return Service of the CRA. 

What Personal Information Do I Need to Provide?

  • The very thing required here is your Social Insurance Number (SIN)
  • Provide your current postal/ZIP code
  • Give your date of birth
  • You need to enter an amount that you must have entered on any of your income tax and benefit returns. You need to keep a copy of your tax returns close by to access them when needed. 
  • Now, it’s time you create a strong CRA user ID as well as a password
  • Go ahead and create the security questions as well as answers. Since many want to keep accessing CRA sign-in services on their usual computer, they opt to add a persistent cookie. After adding this cookie, they don’t need to identify themselves so often.
  • Now, get yourself authenticated by enrolling in multi-factor authentication. Choose a method for that from two options: telephone or passcode grid, whatever you prefer.
