Step 1- Take a language test
The first step in your immigration journey is to take a language test. Whether you are taking an English or French language test, make sure to score at least CLB 6 because that is the lowest CLB requirement of Express Entry.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) accepts the following language test results for Canada immigration:
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
- Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP)
- Pearson Test of English (PTE)
- Test D’Evaluation De Français (TEF)
- Test de Connaissance du Français (TCF)
Step 2- Get your educational credentials assessed
If your highest educational level was completed outside of Canada, you need to get your credentials assessed. This is called an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).
For this, contact an IRCC designated organization, pay a certain fee and get your foreign credentials assessed. IRCC has designated the following organizations for ECA:
- World Education Services (WES)
- International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS)
- International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS)
- International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES)
- Comparative Education Service (CES)
Step 3- Get a PCC
You must get a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) which will list out the criminal activities committed by you, if there are any. It is a mandatory document and you can get a PCC by contacting any of the following:
- Passport office
- Indian Embassy or Consulate
- Local district police station
- BLS International Centre
Step 4- Select your NOC code
Selection of the right National Occupational Classification (NOC) code for your immigration profile is very crucial. This is because choosing the wrong NOC code can lead to IRCC rejecting your application.
If you are not sure which NOC code is correct for you, pick up your phone and dial our contact number +91 844-838-6496 or +91 875-005-9500.
Step 5- Create an Express Entry profile
Once you have your language test result, ECA report, PCC, and other documents for Canada PR ready, go ahead and create your Express Entry profile.
You do not need to submit any document at this stage to get Canada PR through the best way, but you still need information from documents. Hence, it was necessary that you gather those documents beforehand.
Step 6- Receive a CRS score
Once you are done creating the profile, the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) will give you a score out of 1,200 points and assign you the Express Entry program you qualify for. CRS points calculated are based on the information provided in your Express Entry profile.
Also, the higher you score, the sooner you will receive an ITA in an EE draw.
Step 7- Wait for an Express Entry draw
Once you receive a CRS score and know which Express Entry program you are eligible for, your profile will be put into the Express Entry pool. This pool is made of all the other eligible profiles which are waiting for IRCC to conduct an Express Entry draw. Thus, you need to wait till you are invited in such a draw.
Your profile will remain valid for a year or 12 months in the Express Entry pool and if you still haven’t received an ITA within this time period, you will have to create a new profile.
Step 8- Receive and accept an ITA
If you meet an Express Entry draw’s requirements, IRCC will send you an Invitation to Apply (ITA) to file your Canadian permanent residency. An ITA is valid for 60 days (2 months) only and you have to apply for PR within this time limit.
In case you are unable to submit your permanent residency application within 60 days, the ITA will be removed from your online account and your Express Entry profile will go back into the pool.
Step 9- File your Canada PR application
Since you already have the documents that take a long time to get, you can easily file your Canadian PR application within 2 months. Before submitting the application, make sure that it is complete and only contains correct information.
Once IRCC receives your application, it will send you an Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR) letter. If IRCC catches any misinformation or missing document, it may refuse/reject your application and bar you from entering Canada for life or 5 years.

Step 10- Wait for IRCC’s decision
Since you have applied for PR through the best way, which is through Express Entry, IRCC will most likely process your application within 5 to 8 months.
Thus, you will be able to receive a decision from IRCC on your PR application within 1 year.
Step 11- Get a Canada PR visa and move to Canada
Once your PR application is accepted, IRCC may send you a Passport Request (PPR) so that it can stamp your PR visa in your passport. Use the visa and fly to Canada. If you are approved as a permanent resident at the Canadian port of entry, you will receive your PR card within 180 days of arriving in the country. In case you don’t receive it, apply for one.
Thus, now you know the best way to get Canada PR is through Express Entry.
