The Newfoundland & Labrador Express Entry Skilled Worker stream or category is one of the several streams that NLPNP offers. NLPNP or Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program selects candidates for nomination who can assist in improving the province’s economy as well as intend to live there. 

If you want to apply, you need to first create an Express Entry profile and enter the Express Entry pool so that you can be eligible for the NLPNP Express Entry Skilled Worker stream. Once you have a profile, make sure that you qualify for the stream, apply to it. 

If the province approves your application, you will receive a nomination certificate in your profile, which will provide you with an additional 600 CRS score. After scoring more than 600 CRS score, an Invitation to Apply (ITA) is almost guaranteed in Express Entry draws. Hence, score that ITA and apply for Canada PR to IRCC!

Newfoundland & Labrador Express Entry Skilled Worker Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Newfoundland & Labrador Express Entry Skilled Worker stream, you have to meet the following criteria:

  • You must already be accepted into the Express Entry pool, which means you must have an Express Entry profile 
  • Have a full-time job or job offer in a TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3 occupation
  • Work with an employer who has a valid Job Validation Assessment (JVA), if you don’t have a valid work permit or federal authorization for the role
  • Must be guaranteed at least 30 hours of work a week
  • Have a job that lasts at least one year
  • Work for a provincial employer who meets the province’s employment standards.
  • Receive a salary, not commission, that aligns with regional or provincial wage rates.
    • Qualifications for the Job: You need the right qualifications, training, skills, or accreditation for the job. 
    • Status in Canada (if applicable): If you are already in Canada, you must have a valid status with at least four months left on your permit. Post-graduation work permit holders are eligible.
    • Intention to Settle: Show a genuine intention and ability to settle permanently in Newfoundland and Labrador with your family members, if any.
    • Financial Resources: You need enough funds to support yourself and your dependents. 
    • Business Ownership: If you have a stake in your employer’s business, your ownership must be 10% or less. This does not apply to selected Entrepreneurs.
    • Education Requirements: Have a Canadian post-secondary degree/diploma or a valid Educational Credential Assessment (ECA).
    • Language Proficiency: Complete a valid language test in English or French. The test must meet the required score for your Express Entry stream and be valid throughout the application process. Accepted tests are:
  • Score at least 67 points on the NLPNP Point Assessment Grid
  • If you’re using a paid representative, make sure they’re licensed and verified to represent your case

Who Doesn’t Qualify for NLPNP Express Entry Skilled Worker Stream?

You will not qualify for this stream if you meet any one of the following criteria:

  • don’t have a valid profile in the Express Entry pool
  • you or any dependent family members over 18 have a criminal record
  • have unresolved custody or child support disputes in Canada or another country
  • have intentionally provided false information in the application, or maybe your employer has misrepresented
  • You are a refugee claimant in Canada.

Newfoundland & Labrador Express Entry Skilled Worker Stream – Application Process

Follow the below instructions to apply to the Newfoundland and Labrador Express Entry Skilled Worker stream:

Step 1: Create an Express Entry Profile

  • Submit your Express Entry profile to IRCC.
  • If accepted, receive your Express Entry Profile Number (E+9 digits) and Job Seeker Validation Code

Step 2: Secure a Job Offer

  • Get a job offer at TEER level 0, 1, 2, or 3
  • If you don’t have a valid work permit or authorization, your employer must complete a Job Vacancy Assessment (JVA)

Step 3: Submit Your NLPNP Application

Apply online to the NLPNP Express Entry Skilled Worker category through the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism

Step 4: Apply for a Work Permit

  • If nominated, submit a work permit application to IRCC (if required)
  • Once approved, travel to Newfoundland and Labrador and start working. If you already have a valid work permit, you can skip this step.

Step 5: Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) and Submit PR Application

  • Once nominated, gain additional points in your Express Entry profile 
  • When you receive an ITA, submit your permanent residence application to IRCC

Step 6: Become a Permanent Resident

  • Once approved, you can settle in Newfoundland and Labrador as a permanent resident.
